Richard Meen became actively involved with purebred dogs in 1965 with the purchase of his first Afghan Hound. He then went on with his life-partner, John Reeve- Newson DVM ,to breed and exhibit Borzoi, Skye Terriers, Harriers, Italian Greyhoundse, French Bulldogs, Old English Sheepdogs, Scottish Deerhounds. Standard Poodles and Doberman Pinschers under the prefix “Kishniga”.
He has owner-handled his dogs to many Best In Shows and Specialty Best In Shows in Canada and the United States. He steered Can and Am Ch. Kishniga’s Desert Song, a Borzoi, to the prestigious #1 spot All Breeds in Canada in 1977.A dog which to this very day holds the title of top winning hound in the history of the CKC. A Skye Terrier by the name of Can and AM Ch Kishniga’s HMS Gunsmoke is Canada’s top winning Skye terrier in the History of the breed in Canada He was also Canada’s number one Terrier and number three All breeds.
He is past President and Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Kennel Club . He was President of the Ontario Sighthound Association, and a member of the Credit Valley Kennel & Obedience Club and the Santa Barbara Kennel Club as well as the prestigious Morris and Essex .He was a member of The Kennel Club. He has judged in Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Japan, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Venezuela, Argentina USA and Canada. He is also a founding member of Borzoi Canada and Skye Canada.
He lives in Canada and practices psychiatry in Toronto, Ontario.
